Now most of you who know me, know that I am deathly afraid of spiders. Just between you and me I think that may be one of the reasons God gave me sons...two more spider killers in my world is not a bad thing.
Anyway, you know you may be lacking in mental stimulation when you feel the need to quote a spider from a children's book you've been reading with your child. But I think Charlotte might have something here...
In this excerpt Charlotte is talking about the way humans live as opposed to spiders...
"'They just keep trotting back and forth across the bridge thinking there is something better on the other side. If they'd hang head-down at the top of the thing and wait quietly, maybe something good would come along. But no-with men its rush, rush, rush every minute. I'm glad I'm a sedentary spider.'
'What does sedentary mean?' asked Wilbur.
'Means I sit still a good part of the time and don't go wandering all over creation. I know a good thing when I see it, and my web is a good thing. I stay put and wait for what comes. Gives me a chance to think.''
A little later in the book Charlotte shares another tidbit of wisdom with Wilbur that struck a chord with me. "Never hurry, and never worry." I think I'll try to take her advice more often...
