Where I Am From

This is a little something I worked on while we were away (details still to come on the trip...I know I keep saying that...BUT I have not downloaded pictures yet, or unpacked all the way, or finished the laundry, or sent thank you notes for Will's birthday (which was in May), or sent our Richie's birthday invitations (the party is in a little over a week), or taken a shower, or celebrated my anniversary (but thanks to Janelle we will on Thursday), or paid the bills, or organized the pantry, closets, and basement, or lost the baby weight...okay I digress.

ANYWAY, I wanted to share this with you. This is SOOO neat. I found it here at Mississippi Girl's blog...one of my new favorites. I'm still not completely happy with my results and I did not follow the template exactly, but to make it work for me I had to tweak it a little. If you decide to write one of your own, please leave a comment to let me know. I'd love to read about Where You Are From. Disclaimer: It is HARDER than it looks!

WHERE I AM FROM

I am from corn fields, from Big Red and a town known for its architecture.

I am from the limestone house on Lincoln Street shaded with maple trees and the familiar sound of Katydids.

I am from sassafras, daffodils, and the hide and seek tree.

I am from Sunday nights watching The Waltons while eating popcorn out of a grocery bag.

From cardboard pizza nights, grocery trips with Mom, and workshop days with Dad.

I am from Trueblood, Reece, and Allen.

I am from the desire to make all things equal and the need for time to yourself.

From “It’s probably just your sinuses” and “Don’t run on the wet carport or you’ll fall and bust your head”.

I am from the brown brick church with green carpet where my lips first sang a melody.

I am from Columbus, Indiana, Lake Trueblood, Pot Roast and Sweet Baked Beans.

From tractor rides, the ice cream bell, and homemade popsicles.

I am from big boat cars, using the backdoor, and full meal deals at Dairy Queen.

From “retro” photo albums in the hall closet, and boxes of school papers in the basement.

From a True home filled with love, devotion, sacrifice, and care.

Beautiful and it does look hard. It may be awhile before I get to that.

I'd like to do that myself. I really like your post!

OK, so how DO you do that? You know, especially if you haven't majored in American Poetry. :)

I can't wait to hear details about the trip - and see LOTS of pictures. In my opinion, there can never be too many pictures!

And Makatos is gone! FOR SHAME!

Sara, I added the link to the template for the "Where I Am From" poem. That should get you started!
