Complete and Utter Randomness

Well, I'm caught up on all of your blogs, so I now feel free to attend to my own blog. I have this weird thing about writing on my own blog when I'm behind on blog reading? Anyone else? No? I didn't think so. I clearly have issues.

This post is going to be complete and utter randomness, are you guys okay with that? See? I'm asking permission to be random on my OWN blog. Issues, I tell you.

And now I am trying to decide if I will just continue with random paragraphs or if I should create a bullet list or maybe a numbered list? I also have some issues with decision making.

Ack. I'm driving myself crazy.

Well, first of all I should say thanks to all of you who commented on my video post. You guys really know how to make a girl feel good. Seriously. All those encouraging comments even when you couldn't hear a word I was saying. That is true friendship right there!

So. I have a bit of a confession to make. I have a new...okay addiction is probably too strong of a word...let's call it a habit. My new habit includes what I now call "The 21st century mirror". It all started when my niece was here with her pet bee and she showed me the joys of "self portraiting" with the camera phone. Now, I know it sounds vain, but before you judge, you might want to try it. Because a picture speaks a thousand words and if you're really wondering how you look on any given morning, a little "self portraiting" with the camera phone can go a long way toward giving an honest answer. So, I say, "Down with mirrors!"

And now that you have lost at least a little respect for me, I might as well add a little more fuel to the fire. How about another confession? I think I might need a household care intervention. I'm not sure what has happened to me as of late, but some days it seems as if I have all but given up on maintaining any sort of order in our home. Okay, I guess in some small (or maybe big) way, I have given up. I mean, seriously, it is just going to look like an EXPLOSION just happened AGAIN tomorrow, so what is the point?

The Big D. You knew it would come up at some point, right? I'm still in it, people....4 months and counting! I'm still making progress, but it has been painfully slow. HOWEVER, I am finally starting to notice a difference and am fitting into some more palatable clothing sizes and that is very exciting and motivating! One of the things I'm most excited about is my progress with the running. I am up to 7 minutes running at a time with 3 minute breaks in between. That is with only running 2 (sometimes 3) times a week so I'm building up the time very gradually. On the other days I work out at Curves. It always surprises me when I realize that I am ready to kick it up a notch with the number of minutes running. I'll be thinking one day that I won't be ready to bump up the time for awhile and then the next morning I wake up and feel like I can do it. Kind of weird, but cool.

One last confession. I love carbs. I do. I always will. Kate, tell your daughter she's not the only one!

And lastly, I hope you are all out there crunching lots of leaves right now because this is prime leaf crunching season! As much as I would like to, I can't crunch them all myself. You must do your part. Go forth and crunch!

I love your randomness!!! I'm SO proud of your perseverence with the Big D...hopefully it will begin to just feel like a way of life and not so much a D!!

As far as running goes...WOW...you are really working hard, girl! Did you ever check out Jeff Galloway???

Funny you commented me today because you were on my mind this weekend...I was thinking of that video and how fun it was to "see" you...so, I'm actually hoping to do a video today at some point and post it..we'll see, so stay tuned!!
I was obsessed after leaving your site with others videos...I hate I missed the first go 'round but then I thought "why not do it anyway?"!!

Hope you and yours have a great week!!

I was JUST thinking about you as I ran after the kids in my backyard. CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH is all I heard! Well, that and the loud children. :)

Carissa is right. You look AWESOME. Your perseverence is inspiring to me.

And WHAT is it about carbs? Why do we like them so much? I suppose we'll never really know.

I have my own blogging issues, but they are the opposite of yours:
I feel like I can't read blogs if I haven't updated my own. Now THAT is an issue. It sounds self-centered now that I write it out! But I can spend all day reading blogs, seriously. SOMEBODY STOP ME. It just never ends, one thing leads to another - and then I don't write. So, I write, then read if I have time left over - which usually means reading about 3 before I have to call it quits. Bite-sized reading allowances is what I have these days.

I enjoyed your video! It's fun to put a voice with a blog. :)
My problem is my outdated video camera which is NOT digital. I can only purchase one tech item at a time, but by the time I have enough money for a new dvd player, the newer technology is out and then I need a new tv to go with. If I have a new tv, it won't fit in the armoire. And if I get a new camera I may need a new computer to go with. Overwhelming. "I'm not a strong techie person." :)

When we bought the camera, the digital ones were just coming out and our computer was old. I just couldn't deal with a pregnancy AND figuring out a new camera and computer at the time. So, now I'm voiceless on blogger! :)

Sorry for the rambling - it's definitely time to sign off. :)

Random blog posts are the best. I know what you mean about being torn over whether to post something on your own blog vs catching up on the masses.

I'm a carb lover too...not something I'm even willing to change. No one would want to live with me in a carb free house. Congrats on your progress.

I remembered that you love the crunchy leaves! I need to crunch some myself.

I also need to do a video post. I am putting it off because I don't want to watch myself on the computer! :)

Oh I love the title of your blog!

Oh, please crunch lots of leaves for me! I miss doing that!

I love carbs, too. Though cheese and chocolate work for me, as well. I guess chocolate counts as a carb?

Congrats on the running! Keep at it!

And I have the same issues when it comes to blogging. So I guess I'm wierd, too. People don't understand why it is so hard to "Mark All as Read" on my Google Reader when I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the reading I need to do. I just CAN'T do it!

Okay...I read this and I had to comment, even though I wrote an entire post about not commenting.

First of all, I share your issues with posting on my blog when I have a ton of posts that I want to read! It's sort of pathological, but there it is.

And the crunching of the leaves. Please tell me you are going to don some more cute shoes and "white socks" and video your excursions again this year!!

Alana, you are such an inspiration! I'm SO IMPRESSED with your running skills! That is something I don't know if I'll ever be at a point to do...unless it means running for my life AWAY from something! I have been keeping up with your blog and you have been one of MANY who have inspired me! (However, it just occured to me that I have't commented on your blog forever--sorry!) Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to the day when clothes start fitting me better, too! Oh, and the carbs...they get me too! You're not alone in your battle(s) my friend!!

Oh, I totally identify with the household-explosion issue. I think it must be the age of our kids. You have my sympathies! :)

I'm still waiting for the leaves to fall here...can't wait for some leave-crunching fun! I'm sure the girls will have a great time with it too! Great idea. Loved that post too.

I liked this post. We should all be free to post random thoughts on our blog. Isn't that what it was created for? :) Congrats on the running! That is something I try to do (maybe once a month). But seriously I have tried before to build my stamina in running and I've failed. So way to go on your progress!!

Good for you. The big D is a lot of work but so worth it. I'm struggling to maintain muscle now that I am forty. Holy Smokes! It takes some effort. So now I'm running and walking and thinking of you the whole time. Seven minutes? You are my hero. I'm somewhere around 45 seconds. You go girl. And do try the smashed potatoes. Just be prepared to do a few miles after you eat them.
