I have recently agreed to take on a more prominent role in the planning and execution of our church blog. We currently have one, but are wanting to spruce it up a bit and take a different direction with it than was originally planned. So, as we are in the planning stages, I thought I would come to you guys for some thoughts and ideas. Could you take a minute and answer one or more of the questions below in the comments section and help a girl out?
1) Does your church have a blog? If so, do you read it?
2) Do you feel that your church's blog is effective?
3) If you feel that your church's blog is ineffective, what would you like to see done differently?
4) If your church were planning to create a blog, what kind of content would you want to see included?
5) If your church created a blog, would you read it? What kind of content would keep you coming back for more?
Please don't limit yourself to these questions if you have more thoughts on this subject. I'd love to hear all of your input!
Thank so much!

My church doesn't have a blog, although the Women's Ministry page links to mine (I didn't even know that for a long time!)
I would read it, definitely. I think I'd like to see different people's reactions to Sunday's sermon...and how they could expound upon it, as far as how God's using it in their own lives.
My church has a website and we have several pastors and they have blogs and some have seperate blogs for seperate ministries. Its been helpful for getting info out but for some reason people are afraid to leave a comment. My husband (a pastor) has a blog and he has several subscribers and gets comments in person. I think suggesting a subsrciption to the blog is def. of value.
Looks like you do a great job on yours!
Good luck!!
no blog for my church. sorry i'm not more helpful. you know how i love to be helpful! : )
Our Church just revamped their website and I haven't really looked around. In the past several of the pastors have had blogs. (nearly all the employees are pastors.) We can also catch the message online too.
What I wish they would add is a blog from one of the women pastors or a mom...
our pastor has a blog, which i do read and i love it. it's a large church, so not all of us know him personally, and the blog is a casual way for us to get to know him and what's "rattling around in his head", as he said when he developed it.
a lot of times it complements the sermon he's going to do the following sunday, or sometimes it's commentary on news or current events. he's even weighed in on books and movies, which is my favorite! he's our shepherd, and this is just one other way he can guide us.
our church doesn't have a blog per se, but the pastor and his wife do as well as many of the other staffers...and I read every one of them! at least the ones I know about...our pastor's blog is very similar to what "r" described above.
i think it depends alot on the size of your church...if it is big, a blog is a great way to see a more personal side of the staff. if it is small, it could just be a way to further community, etc.
good luck w/whatever you end up doing with it. it sounds like quite an endeavor!
Well, I think its fun when the staff has blogs...thats what we do! :) I do think its fun to have one general blog and different people can write for it. Thats a good idea. Thats all I can come up with....other than keep it fun and serious...
Hugs,
Fran
I'm pretty sure we don't have a blog. I think the ideas of maybe knowing the pastor and staff a little better would be neat. Of having different staff memebers write posts now and then. It would be a great place to check on events, or read about something that's already taken place. I think it would be neat to have a weekly memory verse or something like that. One more idea...It would be neat if there was a place to find out some specific things you could be in prayer for your church. Okay, all done!
I would love a church blog, or at least a frequently updated website with church info, etc.
Our HS Youth have a Facebook group and it is such a fun way to keep in touch and encourage them. I know that is not what you were asking, but it is effective for information and accountibility.
our church doesn't have a blog.
i think i 'd like to see various contributors. youth, children, worship, parents, old folks. lots of pix, events, and news. share how your being the church when your not in church.
wow, your kinda getting my wheels turning, maybe i should look into this for our church?
our church has a lame website. how's that for not being nice?! the set up and graphics/pictures are great, but the content seems scattered and boring. they are working on changing it and one thing i'd love to see is a pastor's blog. you know cuz of course blogging is awesome! but in a large church like ours it is a great way to get to know the pastor(s) better. best of luck on your new project!
Well, considering we attend the same church, yes, we have a blog. Heh! It's Dave's blog, of course, and I check it regularly to see what he has to say. I think maybe a sermon forum would be good each week so that we can ask him questions, discuss the sermon, give our insights, etc.
Golly, I need to spruce up my blog, too.
