There is one day a year that makes me feel like a kid again. It's not Christmas, or Easter, or the Fourth of July.
It's SNOW DAY!
Something switches in my brain on those days and I give myself permission to pretend for a day that I am not a responsible grown up. And you know what? I am so much more fun when I'm not acting like a grown up. I do things like sleep in (actually I can give myself permission for that any day), I leave the beds unmade, I let my boys make a big mess in the kitchen while making pancakes (yes, the oldest boy...my husband was included in that equation), I make snowmen, and sled, and throw snowballs, I pour hot chocolate freely (even if it's right before lunch and might ruin our appetites), I make popcorn for lunch (because the hot chocolate did ruin our appetites), and waste the afternoon away while watching a movie (even though I've seen and heard it a million times before).
I like Snow Day Me. Wish I could have her around here more often. Just look how much fun was had today...

sounds like an all the way delightful day!
i know what you mean about the mom that does all the cool stuff... i wish i were here more often, too
Awwww, that looks like fun!
It IS nice to let your hair down once in a while and to let the kids too ("all good things in moderation" they say). And that is one MIGHTY snowman you all built! It was nice meeting Snow Day You and I like ISFJ you as well!
My Snow Day Me actually made cookies FROM SCRATCH and we ate them for lunch with our cocoa.
And my Snow Day kids NEVER fought, not once.
I am glad today was a great day for you, too. I think we all need to find our Snow Day selves more often.
Oh how I wish I could have a Snow Day! We don't get those often around here. Sounds like a delightful day, though. *Sigh*
Snow day me was the ONLY mom out playing in the snow over in our part of the hood.
Maybe tomorrow we can gather all the mommies we know in the neighborhood, for some sledding fun.
(in the tradition of a kid... My snow men are bigger than your snow man. he ha he ha ha)
Ok now serisouly back to mommy...It looks like you had a great time.
You are a fun snow day mommy! My kids are watching Everyone's Hero right now and we are about to do the breakfast thing.
I'm sure it will be a let down my hair sort of day here!
I have to say though, I don't like to get out in it too much. It's cold and wet! :)
Snow day me has to go to work:( But hopefully the boss will let me go home after he sees that people do not go out to eat during a snow storm!
It looks like a good time was had by all at your house...oh, and you HAD to serve hot chocolate and popcorn...no bread and milk remember???
YAY for snow days! All we are getting is rain ;-( I love snow days too......wouldnt it be fun if we could have one every week?
Snow days are so much fun. I love snow day me as well, so much more laid back than normal.
See...being a grown up really is boring isn't it??!! Way to go mom!
Good for you....we had a snow day with no snow and some supposed "ice" on the roads.
Us Southerners completely freak out when this "ice" occurs. It was a good day off though.
Happy weekend~

Sounds like the perfect day. We have had a few too many snow days this year, so now I just groan when those pretty white flakes start falling. ~K
This looks like so much fun! I miss having "snow days"--we live out of the mountains now:(
You struck a chord with all of us who let our hair down on snow days and not some other days. What I think you don't realize in the midst of your daily challanges is that you are giving "snow days" to all of us. There are such beautiful places in your heart rising up that are so full of faith and frivolity and conviction and character from Above. Loving you this morning and just have to tell you that my beautiful God just showed up in a FED EX envelope at our unemployed Benbrook door, leaving me in a melted heap of grateful tears.
This is why I didn't want my children to grow up in San Diego. I couldn't imagine a happy childhood that didn't include snow days.
(Of course, when our high was -2 on Wednesday with a wind chill of -37, I was rethinking my decision. But still.)
Glad you had fun. Here's to more snow days, whether literal or not.
This looks amazingly fun! I wish my kids could make a snow-person in our yard. Cozy pictures!
I'm so glad you had such a great day!
Our day was, well, interesting. It's hard sometimes with #1, throw her routine off, and watch the sparks fly! We did manage to have some Snow Fun though, in the midst of the fireworks!
Today has been much better now that we're all settled in. Daddy was home to play for the morning, and little sister went to play at Nana's this afternoon, giving Big Sister some time to herself. So I'm breathing again!
Alana - I know what you mean about that mentality change! Something about a snow day....
Looks like you all had a great time. I am up for a day full of hot chocolate anytime!
Nothing more fun than a snow day.
Thanks so much for popping over to my blog. If my words can glorify God by helping someone who is going thru a similar situation then I am truly blessed.
Please tell your friend I will be praying for her.

Sweet memories! I love the freedom of snow days, so glad you had such a wonderful day. Truly a treasure for you and your kids.
ps- just tagged you for a meme over at my place :)
We haven't had a snow day here yet! Unusual for us. The temps are supposed to be around 51 today...what is THAT about?
Glad you enjoyed your snow day. I like your Snow Day Me...and I love your just Me.
There is something magical about snow! I just love snow days as long as we don't have to make up school into summer! :(
What a fun day! I should be a Snow Day mom more often as well! Of course, we didn't actually have snow on our snow day! :)
We don't have snow days down here, but I love those unexpected days off to do nothing but have fun! Sounds like you guys had a great time...
BTW...I have those exact popcorn containers. The kids LOVE them!

We had a snow day yesterday. Beautiful. We've got these great trees in our backyard that catch the snow in their branches--you can see photos on my blog.
At our house, we've tried to embrace the "snow day" mentality once a week, by making Sundays a day of fun, relaxation, and family connection. It's not always easy, but it's made a big difference in my spiritual life, and the way that I relate to my kids and my hubby.
"snow day me" - you are so clever alana! glad you had a good day! so fun to see you last night! hope you enjoyed the movie!!!
What beautiful boys! I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 10mos old myself... they keep me busy! But what a blessing they are!
