Resolution Schmesolution

Sooooooooooooooooooo. How ya doin' with your resolutions so far this year? Anyone still hangin' in there?

I don't think I'll go so far as to call mine resolutions, I like to think of them more as "suggestions". Resolving to do something USUALLY requires some form of will power, determination...or divine intervention. Instead of telling myself that I resolve to do this or that, I'm generally thinking more along the lines of, "I'll try to do this or that...you know, if I can". "If it's not too much trouble". "And if it's not too...um...difficult".

So, this year a few of my "suggestions" were to exercise, eat healthy, drink less soda (more on that later) and to read the Bible Cover to Cover Chronologically.

Now, if these had been resolutions, I would be discouraged by now and mostly likely have given up. But with suggestions you see, there is a little more wiggle room. I like wiggle room.

I've been doing pretty well with the healthy eating and exercise (with the exception of today because we couldn't possibly celebrate the season premier of American Idol without a little Java Chip). See? Wiggle room. Seriously, though. On the whole, I've been making better choices in these areas. Please pay no attention to this post about the excessive eating of ice cream bars. Those are DIET bars, don't you know?

And reading the Bible Cover to Cover Chronologically is going much better than I anticipated. I'm just a little behind. It's not too late to join us in that if you'd like!

And last, but not least is the soda. Oh, the soda. I love soda, Coca Cola in particular. It is my achilles heal. My vice, if you will. I made a half-hearted attempt to join Rich in going cold turkey with it (my friends are laughing out loud right now). That attempt lasted all of about...um...well...would you believe not even 24 hours (my friends are saying, yeah, uh-huh, that's right, sister)?

I'm a sad, sad girl.

But, here's the silver lining. I have reduced my soda consumption quite dramatically. Even occasionally going a day without one. And most days only drinking one tiny can (100 calorie size). I think the key is that I've found a great substitute. It is one of my new favorite things. I read about this drink on Tara's blog. The brand is called Izze and I highly recommend that you try them. Yum. The ingredients are fruit juice and sparkling water. That's it. Simple, but good. My favorite flavor so far is Blackberry...with Pomegranate following a close second.

So, there you have it. A mid-January confessional. It could be better, but it could be worse. I'm just taking it one day at a time. And praying for a little of that divine intervention. Lord knows I can't do it on my own!

Hello Miss Crunching Leaves in white socks...you are just absolutely adorably adorable...and I'm sitting here in Texas where I don't think they have Ixxe's---oops Izze's NAD DNA AND I am wondering what your beautiful God is thinking about your resolutions, I mean suggestions. and I know this, you've made Him smile with delight as you read His love letters to Alana...so thrilled to walk alongside you, blog alongside you, and you just reminded me I MISSED AI---it's the only thing I really watch---except our tv's don't work and I have to go exercise on treadmill to watch it and sing along (but not out loud, oh no!) So how was it on a scale of 1 to 100?

Exactly why I don't make resolutions!

Wasn't Idol good last night? I didn't see all of it, but found a couple of favorites already.

YEAH! It's AI season! Maybe this year we could actually get together and watch an episode! Instead of just talking about it! Good for you on your suggestions. I like that idea! I need to give the Izze a try, and the one Jen mentioned. I've cut back a bit on the soda, but not enough. I have to say, I am impressed that you're down to one small can a day. We're Coca-Cola pals, you and I, so you give me inspiration!

I think the suggestions are a great idea! When I make a resolution, the second I mess up I give up altogether.

Any change requires baby steps and lots of failings and fresh starts. I think you're doing a GREAT job.

Sounds like you're doing really well if you ask me!! So, here's what I heard & maybe this will help you with the Coke...at least it did with us. The amount of sugar that is in a Coke is equal to eating 7 chocolate donuts!...That's right SEVEN!! I understand though trying to give up something that you love so much...believe me, I know! Sounds like you're doing great though!

I am so happy that it's American Idol time. :)
Anyway, good job on the progress that you've made with your suggestions.
At least you're giving it a go.

It sounds like you are making great progress with your suggestions! I am doing well with some of mine (Bible study, eating, family bible study), but some I haven't started yet (catching up on scrapbooking). At least, like you, I am making progress!

I love seeing your "realness" come through on this blog. I love that you are just a mom/woman trying to do your best within God's will.

I am so proud of you and all your suggestions!

I must try an Izzy. I need a new drink besides water. You can really cut it out...I can help if you need. Cuz who wants to drink 7 chocolate donuts?

Yep. Don't make resolutions bc I will FAIL in less than 24 hrs. I have things I'd like to be better at, etc. etc. And, its ok if I completely stink one week and do better the next.

So....suggestions it is and suggestions I like.

And I will NEVER EVER give up coca-cola. NEVER! :)

Love,
Fran

As a fellow Coca Cola addict, I say God Bless you in your efforts... I'm not called to give it up...just yet...

And I would MUCH rather drink a cold Coca Cola than eat 7 donuts any day!!!

I love the idea of "suggestions". I really didn't make a list this year. Last summer I gave up soda. I usually don't buy it for home, but over Christmas we had lots of company and so I did. Big mistake! I fell off the wagon and got a concussion. I am now trying again. Anyway, good for you! Love your post.
