See those bushes? They have blueberries on them! LOTS and LOTS of ripe blueberries. Yum!
Here's my crew with their buckets rarin' to go!
Um...this little one is cute, but didn't quiet earn his blueberry keep!
This cutie is holding proof that he did indeed pick blueberries. (On a side note, I sure wish those top two front teeth would come out already. If you look closely enough, you can see that they are really low and slightly crooked, but not loose enough to pull yet.)
The bountiful harvest! (Although, not as bountiful as it would have been if it hadn't started raining!)
Of course after all that hard work we had to have a little treat. Here is the house specialty...a Blueberry Thunder Muffin. Or what was left of it...
Until next time, berry patch! We'll be back soon...maybe even later this summer for some blackberry pickin'!
Now...what to do with 3.5 lbs of blueberries? Any ideas that will not blow The Big D?

I am coming right over for the blackberry picking days!!!!!!!!!!
My toddlers called them blackbabies at the grands...
we leave for Austin in the morning and appreciate your prayers!
That picking crew you have is quite adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awww, that looks like fun!
How about smoothies? I like Vegan Lunchbox. (Check it out: http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/2008/07/summer-veg-out-part-iv-smoothies.html. Sorry, I don't know how to do html to make it a link!)
Wish we could get sensibly priced blueberries here in Japan. You can buy about 50 grams (1.7 ounces) for $3.00. Yikes. I don't indulge.
Yum! My absolute favorite.
I love that your entire family went along to get in on the picking...good memories for them down the road!
Smoothies made with nonfat yogurt and pineapple juice.
Yum!
Looks like so much fun! the muffin is making me drool!
I was gonna say...freeze them and eat them as a sweet frozen treat!
You all are so cute!
what a fun day out blueberry picking :o)
Smoothies are definitely a great way to go with the blueberries. You could also top them on your yogurt, or you could make a lo-cal blueberry cake of sorts - really. Cuz listen girl - if you are doing W.W., then you have points to deal with and if you do it like I do - I pick and choose the days I want to splurge with my points. I still stay in my range and I still lose weight. Make a treat one day. Eat a 1 point yogurt for breakfast (Dannon Activia Light Vanilla) and throw a little dessert on your turkey burger dinner one night!
The day looks like so much fun! I'm glad you had fun.
What a great family outing. Super pics!
I love them! I always eat more than I put in the bucket though.
The pics are wonderful. Your boys are darling.
Freeze them and save them for cobblers. (a little bit of cobbler now & then won't hurt). Also, fresh blueberries in tossed salads...yummy!
My blueberry suggestion is to put them in your plain yogurt--I love that!!! I'm honored to be a part of your blog roll--it's great to catch up with you!!
:)Jennifer
that looks fun! and you fam is CUTE!!!
Glad to know the pickin is good! Gary and I are headed down there this weekend so thanks for saving us a few:) I will bring my blueberry buckle recipe to church on Sunday. It is a family recipe handed down through the years that everyone loves.
One of my favorite memories is picking blue berries with my Granny and Poppy!! You boys are adorable. I love the view you had.
Can you make a jam/perserve with the blue berries?
Looks like your bunch had a 'berry' good time.
We wanted to stop this summer and do that...it's right next to Z's camp. Next summer after we drop off the boys, we should go get a muffin!
Love getting back to the basics with family fun!
Great pics! Even if he didn't earn his blueberry keep, that William is sure a cutie! Oh, and I can't wait to see Richie without those two front teeth!
My kids love to eat the blueberries frozen, with a little cinnamon and sugar on top! It's a good treat for mom too! For a not-as-healthy treat, those berries make AWESOME blueberry pancakes!
What a great day! Where is this fantastic blueberry patch? It looks like it's worth the drive from Joplin! :)
YUMMY! Looks like y'all had a blast!
Now let's see...recipes...I see you've had a lot of smoothies mentioned....how about blueberry wheat waffles! Or even blueberry oatmeal bars!

Good luck!
Oh that looks like such fun. I see you have tons of ideas here for eating them - good luck girl.
i'm wondering how you talked mr hubby into going. he must be that sweet of a guy!! and the *wish he was toothless* wonder. i have one myself and he is 7. way past time for those danglie to come out!
you sure have cute boys!
That young William is so darn cure, I could eat him up! He just knows the right "look" to throw at the camera! And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICHIE!!! We all wish you a great celebration. Too bad we don't live close to you. I think blueberries on cereal, in oatmeal, etc. is yummy. And I make yogurt parfaits with blueberries. I like the smoothy ideas, too. But, you've got to make a good cobbler or coffee cake with them. You could use applesauce instead of oil, and use 1/2 wheat flour 1/2 white flour. Then it wouldn't be too damaging to the big D. Blueberries are one of my favorite foods...I'm jealous!
What a fun day...with excellent rewards. :o) Yum!
I had to laugh at the comment about Richie's teeth. I was SO ready for Nathan's to come out...they looked gross half in and half out. He looked like he had buck teeth for a week or so...

Oh how fun! Wish we had a patch like that near us.
My g-ma use to run a berry patch at their farm up north...good memories!
Oh, I LOVE blueberries. My sister's in-laws have a farm and she freezes them and uses them all year. I have a great recipe on my blog for a blueberry coffee cake. It's out of this world good, but not so great for The Big D. Maybe a sliver? :)
That picture of Will is precious! It makes me smile every time I see it!
Those were some great pictures. We've never done any blueberry pickin' before! I'm sure my Ben would get as much done as Will!
