The Effects of Nyquil?

It may be a result of all the Nyquil I have ingested in the last few days, but when I saw this commercial on television today I had to find it on You Tube because I couldn't stop laughing.

Or maybe it is because I feel exactly like this poor guy whenever I try to replace my favorite snacks with a healthier version. I've tried replacing Coke with Diet Coke, ranch dressing with hummus, and milk with soy milk. All to no avail. I guess, in all fairness, I do occasionally find an exception or two. But still. I mean, come on...these taste buds have been around the block a time or two and they are having NONE OF IT.

What about you guys, have you found any "healthy substitutes" that actually PASSED the taste test? Oh, and while you are at it, go ahead and share any snacks that didn't pass so we can be sure to steer clear of those. My taste buds will surely thank you.

Seriously!! That was really clever. I am not one to give you any healthy advice. My favorite food accessory is cheese and more cheese.

Good luck in your quest, my friend.

I have a few suggestions, but you might not like them. I have given up soda most times for the flavored sparkling waters. I really like Archerfarms brand at Target..the citrus flavor. I have actually tried that buttery garlic popcorn & it's good! But honestly, nothing really replaces the good junk food we love...the only difference for me has been that I now feel yucky when I eat it...sometimes worth it, sometimes not. Oh, wasn't I so helpful?!

So sorry that you even NEED Nyquil...but with or without drugs, this commercial is hilarious!

I haven't had much success with replacement snacks. The best I can do is REDUCE the fat content. ie. 1/3 less fat cream cheese, 2% milk Velveeta, low sodium/low fat cream soups. Hey, anything helps!

Oh that commercial made me laugh right out loud!

As far as healthier substitutes, I'm trying all manner of things these days... I am finding that vanilla silk is a Godsend- I use it in cereal and in my Chai tea in the morning. My tummy is much much happier with me. Old age seems to have brought with it a milk sensitivity!

I haven't achieved this yet, but I'm trying to get my heart to see junk food as junk. I figure like anything else, this healthy eating is going to be a heart issue. I'll let you know if I make any progress ;)

These two babies are apparently health nuts because they are just calling for healthy stuff.

I have been enjoying these snacks:

-oatmeal
-almonds
-yogurt
-cheerios oat clusters cereal...no milk
-fruit,fruit, and more fruit
-balsalmic vinagrette spray
-edamame
-pretzel rods
-icey cold water
now just so you don't think I have gone completely over the deep end, i did have a VERY strong urge to make brownie mix and eat the batter.

i avoided the intense craving with a delightful salad.

Alana - So sorry to hear you are sick - especially on a day as nice as today. That royally stinks!

I am a healthy eater about 75% of the time . I try to eat organic as much as possible and I have found lots of yummy things to feed my cravings. Here are a few:

home-made guacamole. Just use one avocado, a little of your favorite salsa and a squeeze of half a lime. Lots of good fats in there and you can dip carrots in this and it tastes awesome!

100 calorie shortcakes, Cool Whip Lite, Fresh strawberries cut up and mixed with a little "xylitol" sweetener. If you know health food stores - you know xylitol. It is just an all natural sugar - nothing fake - nothing that causes cancer and a lot less calories. It makes a very low-cal yummy strawberry shortcake.

Whole Wheat pitas and Roasted Red Pepper hummus.

Cut your pita into 8 little wedges - toast in the oven at 350 for about 3 minutes. Dip the warm and crispy pitas in the hummus and it is a totally different taste than just dipping them cold out of the bag. Feels bad, but oh so good!

Hope this helps your efforts towards good eating!!!

Have you tried laughing cow lite cheese wedges? The herb ones (pink wheel) are so good - with veggies, on crackers, on a sandwich, etc. And you can get quite a bit of mileage outta one. I'm a ranch girl and it reminds me of ranch in a good way.

Coke Zero? MUCH better than diet coke. Even my hubby will drink it.

I'm glad to see you noted my Izze stuff - have you tried Izziesque. It's like the diet version of Izze - not too bad.

Our newest fave are the NUTritious snack nuts from Planters. They are about half the sodium of normal mixed nuts and SO yummy. Please note - they were about $8.25 for a can at my grocery store yesterday -- they're $5 at Walmart. Just so ya know.

And what are the odds? I LOVE those WW ice cream bars, too!!!

Chocolate soy milk (silk) isn't half bad - have you tried it?

What else can I think of? Um - clementines -- the little cuties are SO good and a great snack.

Btw - hope you feel better!!

For my chocolate/ice cream fix I like the Sugar Free (not fat free) Fudgesickles and Skinny Cows.

We use wheat pasta instead of regular pasta ... the angel hair b/c it doesn't really taste different at all. The thicker pastas do and it doesn't fly with my taste buds!

I also use turkey meat instead of hamburger meat ... marrinade it correctly and you never know the difference!

Ummmm, I am so not an expert on anything healthy, but I do use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of beef. I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal (brown box). I also love the south beach diet 23 gr protein bars (in the diet section of your local wal-market). I have begun using pure coconut oil to fry in (do a search for 'properties of pure virgin coconut oil' - it will make you feel like you are doing something really healthy). Yoplait light yogurt (preferable Boston Creme Pie flavor) is another fav. I have not lost any real weight lately, so my healthy picks are apparently not working, but they are tasty.......hope you feel better......

Ok...lets go back to some good ole moderation. Moderation is the key!
Right???

Commercial was hilarious!!

OK here I am to confess.

Not 5 minutes after i published my comment talking about the previous craving for some brownie batter....*shock*....I was mixing a batch of brownie batter.

And let me tell you ITWASGOOD!!!!!

I'm with Fran on the moderation. It worked for me AND some exercise!

One thing that I do is rinse my ground beef after I cook it up for spaghetti or meatloaf or sloppy joes. You can't tell the difference, but the extra grease goes down the drain. Try it.

I drink diet soda, so I'm no help there!

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

The commercial is so funny!!!

I am right there with you with the snacks - I can't do diet soda - no way no how! I have tried, even doing a half regular half diet mix - nope! I prefer fountain soda and since I don't have fountain machine in my house I only indulge once or twice a week.

I LOVE skinny cow ice cream sandwiches and their caramel ice cream cone cups - YUM! I also really like the WW smart ones cookie dough ice cream sundae - very good. I tried the mint it was a bit too minty for me.

Good luck!

From the junk food house capital of blogspace...no advice here! I have resisted buying snacks my husband and I will inhale as we are trying to get fit AGAIN! Fruit is always a BIG hit around here. But I just can't do that flax seed stuff....so, I wanted to cry right along with that fella in the video...HILARIOUS!

The first time I saw this on TV I thought I might pee my pants! Strangely enough, I have been visiting my vegan cousin, and every. single. thing. in her pantry is either plant based and/or organic. Watching this was really timely and I really felt his pain...."I'm hungry".

That is the funniest commercial ever!

Don't give up your snacks. You have to have a vice in this life.
