I wanted to fill you in on the happenings of the last 18 hours or so. Last night Rich and I were playing tennis with friends and as Rich was serving the ball, Richie standing diagonally in front of him turned and the ball hit his eye.
I noticed shortly after that there was blood in the eye (where the iris is) and he was complaining that he could not see out of it. We went to the ER and they diagnosed him with Hyphema (bleeding in the anterior of the eye) and a corneal abrasion (which is very painful). They admitted him for observation and until the Opthamologist could see him in the morning. He had to be on bed rest and sleep upright so that the blood would not pool at the back of his eye causing more problems.
The Ophtamologist's report this morning was good. He said the blood in the eye was at 5% as opposed to 10% the night before. There was no damage to the back of the eye and the prognosis was good for a full recovery. He said at least 24 hours more of bed rest, a patch for the eye, drops, and medicine for the pain. We are to see him again tomorrow at 1:30pm to check the progress. He thought the abrasion should be healed by then and that (hopefully) the blood in the eye would be completely absorbed.
We were discharged from the hospital, but as soon as we got home he started complaining of his stomach hurting and threw up (we think this was from the medicine on a mostly empty stomach). He still seems to be in a lot of pain, is still struggling with nausea, and is having a hard time leaving the eye alone. We are also concerned the eye might be bleeding again...it is hard to tell by just looking.
Please continue to pray for him. Thanks to everyone for all the prayers, thoughts, and kind deeds. We are truly grateful!

oh my...how scary for him...well, all of you. we will be praying for all the things you mentioned. so sorry this happened. hopefully rich isn't beating himself up too bad!
Alana! Oh, I am definitely praying right now as I type this. Thank God for a good prognosis - now we'll just keep praying that it stays that way. So sorry, girl!
God, please heal Richie's eye 100%!!! Give him the willpower to leave his eye alone so it can heal properly; please stop any potential bleeding and reverse any damage. Please give the whole family peace and rest - in Jesus' Name!
Poor guy, what tough doctor's orders to follow too. :(
We're still praying over here my friends. What a sweet little trooper he's been though. Both boys! You should be very proud!
I'll be praying for his recovery (poor baby!), and for you guys as you muddle through this with him. Glad to hear that there is a good prognosis, but sorry to hear that ya'll have to endure this at all!

How scary. I hope he has continued to heal and the medication is no longer making him sick.
i have been reading on f.b. your updates. i hope richie continues to heal. may God sustain you, and give you peace.
Oh. my. goodness!!! I saw that something happened to his eye from your updates on facebook, but it is good to read the whole story here. So sorry. That must have been one scary night for all of you. Hope he is feeling better soon. Give him some extra mama lovin'...it does wonders. ;o)
Oh my word. That sounds just horrible. I am wondering who (mommy perhaps) had to lay with him to get him to stay sleeping upright? I am sure that wasn't a full night's sleep for anyone. So sorry to hear this. Saying a prayer right now that the Lord will heal this and no permanent damage will be done. Hang in there mom.
Alana, So sorry to hear about this, but I hope he's doing better.
goodness alana...how awful. it is just horrible seeing your man hurtin', huh? hope things have improved. hang in there!!
OH, that's so scarey... will say a prayer for you all.
Oh I am so sorry to read this and will be praying for Richie.
Prayed just now. Praying for healing and I asked God to give you peace. I hope he is so much better very soon.
Oh wow. A scarey thing. I do hope with each hour there is more and more encouraging news.
