It all started on a crisp, cool morning in October of 2001. I saw a fall display at the college where Rich worked. It seemed like a perfect photo opportunity. Out of that photo a tradition was born.
The first year was an easy snapshot of Richie (just 3 months old) lying on a blanket. The second year brought a picture taking challenge in the form of a pumpkin grabbing toddler, the third year a sweet big brother holding "his baby", the fourth year brought pumpkin grabbing toddler #2, last year it seemed they were both getting the hang of it.
And this year...

Perfection!
What an awesome picture. But I want to see the other 5 versions.
What a great picture!! I love the photo tradition----I am going to copy the idea! Your boys are handsome!
i love traditions! and fall displays! your boys are DARLING my friend!!!
soooooo cute!
They are so cute! I thought of you this weekend - Milligan had their Homecoming sign out and everything was decorated so 'fallish'. As I was driving by on Saturday there was a wedding going on at the gazebo and they had all the fall decorations (hay bales for people to sit on, fodder, pumkins etc) and the bride was beautiful with her strapless beaded gown and her long veil. It was really beautiful.
I love it! I look forward to the day when my children will stand politely and look at the camera and smile...for us that will probably be when they get married...
Oh Shelley, like Janelle said in her comment, this was not the first try and there might have been some bribery involved as well ;-)
Please, please, please tell me that is not your front yard, because then I will feel woefully indadequate about my own fall decorating prowess! Seriously though...what a great shot. It makes me want to go pick apples and dress up in a sweater, jeans and boots. Too bad I live on the Gulf coast...LOL!
Xandra, that is funny! No, it is most definitely NOT my front yard. It is a fall display at the college where my husband teaches. I take their picture in that same spot every year!
Aw, my heart is breaking with the sweetness. I need to get serious about that baby brother or sister for Nicknack!
What a cute picture!! I love their smiles! :)
HOw sweet are they! Beautiful display!

They are DARLING!!! I want to see the other years too.
ADORABLE!! And who cares if you bribed them to be so loving! :)
Happy Fall!
They are just darlin'. Big brother is so tall. When did that happen?
Love it!! Your boys make quite the handsome little pair!!
It's so nice to have you back in the 'blogging' world! (I missed you!)
Oh, and I got your post about Indiana. I've been meaning to respond to it, but need to write down your address. I will, though! :)
loving it. peas in a pod. actually, that sounds too girly. two cool cats. no, cats sound too girly too. two rough and tough dudes. cheesy.
love the picture of your two boys. they are handsome. (big h's preferred word.)
(did that make any sense? i'm really tired. can't form sentences. sorry.)
That is too cute! I love the fallishness of it! So tell me, do they ALWAYS love each other that much? lol - my kids will do that too, but usually only for a photo!
they are just too sweet!!! and i agree with someone above...i totally would have been jealous had that been your yard...glad we can still be friends ;)
LOL@Xandra... you are too funny! :)
Great pic, Alana! What handsome guys!
What a wonderful picture. I just love Fall is this quirky little town of ours.
Traditions like this are great because you can compare each year and Great pic!!
What cute boys you have! You know I'm all about boys too! :-) They are darling.
how sweet...
They look so cute! I love the way your older one has his arm around his brother!
Kids grow so fast, don't they? Your boys are very handsome. =)
On your profile I saw you liked the Anne books. My girls and I are reading them together this year - loving them, too! They are starting to drift father and farther from the movie version, which is interesting and keeping the girls on their toes.
I got here from Sarah's place. I'm glad to have found you. I'll be back to visit again! =)
at first i thought it was your front yard and i wondered what you were doing next week to take a look at mine---my college son said he thought he would e-mail pictures of our Texas courtyard to his roommate who majored in Architectural Landscaping and I screamed --- \go for it!!! Seriously, what an adorable priceless picture cause you know these precious boys' thoughts and heart...and you are passing your heart on to them Deut 6:6 and they can never outrun your love...AAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!#28 is gonna be TALL...I have a 6'4" boy---15 year old...i see that height! You see their hearts! Thanks for the precious comment! On my way to my son's first high school basketball game..........
I love the tradition pictures...the ones that are in the same place or with the same theme each year. We put them in a frame on top of the previous years. It is fun each year to look at all of the ones from before!
Cute shot!
Alana,
I just have to tell you that your CD will be there Mon or Tues!!
I found the CD in a bubble envelope on the floor in the van (thanks hubs) so I took matters into my own hands and went to the post office yesterday:)
Alana...
What a beautiful tradition...as the mom of two amazing boys (now 11 and 13) I have had many years of photo traditions at the pumpkin patch. Treasure them...they grow up way too fast!
Enjoy your precious babies...they are perfect!
So glad to stop by your blog...it's beautiful!
